The Basics

The South Carolina Code of Laws is divided into 62 Titles, or sections. This Code is the governing law of the state, covering all aspects of state government. As a resident of, and driver in, South Carolina, it's beneficial to be familiar with or be able to search the Code.

Suppose you are in the military and need to know about driver's licenses for you and your spouse. Or, imagine you have purchased a lemon and want to read up on express warranties in South Carolina. The Code covers all the fine print.

Title 56: Motor Vehicles

Motor Vehicle laws, grouped under Title 56, cover such things as road rules, car dealerships and traffic tickets.

Searching the Code

The Code is a great resource should you need to research almost any issue concerning the operation of your vehicle, but trying to find a particular topic can be daunting unless you know how to read and search the Code.

There is a search option available on the Code page, so you can type in keywords and find specific sections of the Code to fit your need. The Code also covers other topics too, so you may want to spend some time studying the different laws.

Your Driver's License Status

Whenever you would like to check the status of your driver's license, you can order a driving record report. Should your license have been revoked or suspended, the report will indicate that according to what’s on record at the DMV. This report will also show points against your license and, in some cases, information on any accidents you have had.
